A fallen body of work
'Ecology' is about our world, and the place of humanity within it, a beautiful yet polluting form. The images play with growth and disruption of growth, with ‘utopia’ and its opposite, dystopia. The images are an evolution of my playful self-portraiture from 2006-2009; it is a way to express a troubled outlook on the world, through quietly sinister and even unnerving distortions.
There is a Biblical influence fused with a modern-day environmental interest, inscribing the human form upon the landscape and vice versa, exploring the vulnerability of humankind against 'mother nature'. The most recent images take on a more direct dialogue in exposing the problems of our world and its system, inviting collaboration from viewers by sharing the images and text through social media to rouse discussion.
